Tax Calculator

Tax Calculator

Enter your annual taxable income in yen to see a quick estimate based on the current Japanese national income tax brackets. It is straight-faced, fast, and a little too pleased with clean tables.

How To Use It

A quick estimator, not a dramatic life event

This calculator uses the NTA quick table for national income tax, then adds the reconstruction surtax. It intentionally stays simple: local inhabitant tax, detailed deductions, and deeply personal receipt stories are outside this card.

Assumption

Refund forecast assumes your employer slightly over-withheld during the year, which is the gentlest possible version of tax season.

Use your rough taxable income after deductions, not gross salary. The official quick table rounds down to the nearest ¥1,000 first.

Rounded taxable income

Active bracket

¥6,950,000 to ¥8,999,000

This estimate is for Japanese national income tax only. It excludes prefecture and municipal inhabitant tax.

National income tax

Reconstruction surtax

Estimated total

Estimated refund

¥56,000

A deliberately pleasant forecast based on a modest withholding cushion. Real payroll withholding can differ, because reality remains committed to detail.

Calculation

Quick table formula

For the current bracket, multiply the rounded taxable income by the marginal rate and subtract the bracket deduction. Then add 2.1% reconstruction surtax on top.

¥7,000,000 × 23% - ¥636,000 = ¥974,000

The NTA quick table floors taxable income to the nearest ¥1,000 before applying the rate.
