Prior-year filing support

Prior Year

Need to file an older return? FreeTaxJapan keeps the last four filing seasons organized by Reiwa year first, Gregorian year second, so you can find the right route without decoding the calendar under stress.

Service overview

Reiwa year numbering, plainly labeled

This page surfaces Reiwa 7, 6, 5, and 4 exactly the way the rest of the site references filing seasons, so prior-year lookup feels deliberate instead of archaeological.

Current software

Reiwa 7

Use this route when you are working on the 2025 filing season and want the same Japan-red shell as the current-year experience.

Key detail

Reiwa 6

For returns tied to the 2024 season, with the same sign-in flow and the same calm reminder that paperwork still exists.

Key detail

Reiwa 5

For 2023 filing corrections, late submissions, or the return you were absolutely going to handle during Golden Week.

Key detail

Reiwa 4

For the 2022 season, when the question is usually less “can I file?” and more “where did I put those documents?”

Before you open a prior-year return

  • Match your documents to the correct Reiwa season first. It saves time and prevents deeply avoidable confusion.
  • Bring your gensen chōshū-hyō, deduction records, and any furusato nōzei receipts for that same year.
  • Confirm whether you also need a prefecture filing for that older return, not just the national portion.
  • Use the same FreeTaxJapan account so prior-year and current-year filing history remain in one place.
